My session took place at a time when I was living someone else’s life; someone—when I look back at the photos—I don’t entirely recognize. And yet, despite a ring I’m wearing in these photos, (now a forgotten remnant of my divorce) despite the sadness I no longer relate to, despite remembering feeling embarrassed to capture the ugliest I’d ever felt, these photos are precious to me. The parts of the photos I do recognize—the parts laid bare—those parts were the true me all along. And now I see just how beautiful I was, even then.
Personally, I have fears of being photographed at certain angles, which truly left my mind moments into the session with Augusta. It was clear to me her only goal was to celebrate my body, to expose the beautiful angles of it that I was blind to.
Seeing the images for the first time was surreal. They weren’t just good photos, they were a reflection of me—in the best light. Augusta is incredibly talented—she has a knack for making you feel like you’re co-creating the moment, not just posing for it. I’d absolutely love the chance to work with her again on a session like this.
